![]() But again I can’t really complain for the price. Breakfast was a no-frills affair and didn’t really live up to expectations, lots of bread, bizarre looking cereals, fried eggs, boiled eggs, omelet’s, more fried eggs and a variety of sweaty cheese and ham. Our sea view (2nd floor) was fantastic with lovely sunsets every evening. I wholeheartedly recommend a sea view as the back side of the hotel gets no sun at all and the terraces are rather dark. The rooms were nicely sized with plenty of storage and reasonable air conditioning. The common areas pool, restaurant, bar, reception etc… were clean, spacious and cool. Just as long as you remember that they can at times seem a little short but that is just a difference in languages. All in all I cannot fault the hotel the service was good with pleasant, helpful staff. A good touch up is needed but I guess before that can begin, confidence among the European masses needs to be restored. Maestral is beginning to become a little shabby and this shows in no place more so than the rooms. I can imagine the huge cavernous restaurant and outside bar/entertainment areas full to the brim with tourists from all over Europe whereas now it seemed like only German pensioners were present. ![]() The hotel is fairly big and spacious and again this is a sign of how things used to be. ![]() Two decades and several political upheavals later and you are left with modern day Brela and modern day Hotel Maestral. Walking into the hotel is like walking through a door into the 1980’s and every detail from design to background music harks back to the days when Yugoslavia was one of the top 5 package destinations in Europe. The bluesun hotel chain has 3 hotels virtually on top of each other in Brela and Maestral is obviously one of the earlier ones. We travelled here at the very end of the season (September) and therefore some parts of this review may be different for those travelling mid season. Days out, rafting in Omis, if driving, a half day to Imotski very worthwhile.… This is one of the best overall experiences we’ve had and if back in Croatia would definitely revisit without hesitation. Pool, sunbathing area and pool bar are blissfully peaceful. Hotel breakfast is a la carte rather than buffet, same choice each day, but once you learn what’s available you can have a good and plentiful breakfast. Hotel is situated a 2 minute walk away from a delightful beach and paved promenade which left or right leads to countless beaches/bars/resorts for miles- the nearest Brela has a picture postcard marina and good selection of restaurants with good food at a range of prices. As previous reviews have pointed out, the hotel has recently been fully refurbished to a very high standard with no expense spared on rooms and public spaces. From the moment we arrived we felt very welcomed in relaxed and quality surroundings with kind and friendly staff. We stayed here mid September for 6 nights, a midway stop between visiting Split and Dubrovnik.
